The Mind Project

Accessibility Statement

Effective date: 1 January 2026  |  Operator: Deep Light Media Limited  |  Jurisdiction: Kenya

People access mental health content from a wide range of circumstances and abilities — including during distress. We are committed to making themindproject.africa accessible to everyone, including persons with disabilities, persons using assistive technologies, and persons experiencing mental health difficulties. Accessibility is an expression of the dignity we commit to.

1. Conformance Status

themindproject.africa aims to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. We are partially conformant; known limitations are listed in Section 4.

2. Accessibility Features

  • Semantic HTML structure and consistent heading hierarchy for screen readers
  • Descriptive alt text on all editorial images, written by human editors
  • Full keyboard navigation without a mouse
  • WCAG AA colour contrast (4.5:1 normal text, 3:1 large text)
  • Text resizable to 200% without loss of function
  • Fully responsive from 320px width
  • Descriptive link text — no bare “click here”
  • Visible, descriptive form labels

3. Trauma-Informed and Mental-Health-Aware Accessibility

► Designed for wellbeing

Because our readers may be in distress, we apply accessibility principles that go beyond standard requirements:

  • Content warnings before sensitive material, giving readers control — see Content Warning Policy
  • No autoplay — no video or audio plays without your action
  • Predictable, calm navigation — consistent layout supports readers with anxiety and cognitive conditions
  • Reduced motion — animations respect the prefers-reduced-motion setting
  • No unexpected pop-ups — the cookie banner is the only overlay, dismissible with one action
  • Persistent crisis resources — the crisis bar at the top of every page is always available
  • Uncluttered reading experience — minimal distraction, generous spacing, readable typography
